Born Leicester, England 12.8.1943

National Diploma in Design / Interior Design. Leicester College of Art 1965.
Master of Art (Film), Royal College of Art, London 1968.

Richard Stanley's first film as a director, 'Lone Ranger' (1968), won the Golden Hugo at the Chicago Film Festival and the script prize at the Nyons Festival in the same year. His principal training, however, was as a lighting cameraman.

He took part in an expedition in the Mato Grosso, Brazil in search of a stone age Indian tribe. The resulting film, for ATV London, won the Golden Bear award for best documentary in 1969.

Joining the BBC Science series 'Horizon', he shot a number of award-winning science documentaries. He also became deeply involved in the development of music promotion films, working with many of the top international groups of the early seventies, including The Beatles, Santana and The Who.

He came to Finland in 1974 to work as a music producer and to build the first multitrack recording studio in Helsinki for Love Records. He produced many top Finnish bands, inclusing The Hurriganes and Teddy & The Tigers.

A decade later, he returned to film and television production to take advantage of the new video technology. He co-founded a production company which produced many award-winning business programs. Clients included many of the major Finnish industrial companies. Richard Stanley also directed several independent television documentaries.

He then founded his own company, Hokusai Programs Oy, which developed some of the first computer animation projects in Finland, and was also involved in the first multimedia programs in Finland. The company continues to work on innovative technologies, as well as providing a wide range of services to video and film production companies.

In 1989, Richard Stanley began work with Alvar Gullichsen to create Bonk Business Inc. as a multimedia concept, using his science and history knowledge to write this ever-expanding industrial fiction.

Richard Stanley has been involved in a wide variety of media in a thirty year career. Technological and intellectual innovation continues to be the driving force behind his interests and writing has always been the launchpad to new ventures.
