SIXDEGREES WROTE AN ARTICLE ABOUT MUNDO PROJECT

THE MUSEUM OF THE TEMPORARY ARTS KIASMA PRESENTS DIGITALES MADE BY MUNDO STUDENTS 1.12.2006-7.1.2007

The Museum of Temporary Arts Kiasma presents DigiTales* stories as a part of Home for Christmas exhibition. The exhibition in Kiasma Rear Window consist of short personal DigiTales stories made by Mundo students and immigrant schoolchildren taught by Mundo students. Free entrance.

*DigiTales is funded by the European Social Fund and it is led by Hi8us Projects Limited, within the Inclusion Through Media (ITM) partnership. It is enabling excluded people to find their voice through participatory media and aims to create new opportunities in the media and related creative industries. Digital stories are made by all six transnational partners, Mundo project is one of them.

In Finland the DigiTales training concept was used in Helsinki Polytechnic School STADIA as a part of media literacy training for Mundo students in Autumn 2006.

MUNDO AND AFRICA ON THE MOVE FILM EVENT 17.-28.11.2006

Africa on the Move film event will present a good selection of new african movie. Event is organised by Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Helsinki International Film Festival and
Cultural Office of Helsinki. From 24th
November to 26th November Mundo short documentaries can be seen in the beginning of other films.

Directors from Mundo are Fernando Colombo (Jumalan kirkko), Thu Nga Vu-Lilja (Oletko siellä?) ja Anna Kulicka-Soisalon-Soininen (Perhe and Lauantai-illan huuma).

MUNDO PROJECT PARTICIPATES IN BOOK FAIR 27.10. AND 29.10.

Mundo project will participate in the Book Fair arranged in Helsinki Fair Center on 26 – 29 October 2006.

Entertainin Á la Mundo quiz will take place at YLE’s stand on Friday 27 November at 19.00 – 19.30 and Sunday 29 November at 12.30-13.00. Quiz will be led by Carlos Marroquin. As special guest Roman Schatz will take part in quiz.

MUNDO PROJECT AND LOVE & ANARCHY FESTIVAL 14.-24.9.2006



Mundo project is well represented during the coming Love & Anarchy Festival: in addition to Mundo’s own special screening on 21 September Mundo short documentaries can be seen in the beginning of other films as well as 40 minutes every day on a big screen in Kamppi’s Narikka-tori. The premier of Gustavo Alavedra’s “Elegguan poika” will also take place during the festival.

Mundo’s own special screening takes place on Thursday 21 September in Maxim II. After a touching one-hour-long screening of short documentaries there will be a chance for a dialogue between the audience and the film-directors. Free entrance.

Mundo short documentaries in the beginning of Love & Anarchy films give a human touch and perspective to different film issues. E.g. in Mohamed El Aboudi’s “Loma Libanonissa “ the war is seen through the eyes of small children: the vacation of a Finnish-Lebanese family turned into hell when Israel declared war against Lebanon.

MUNDO GOT A SPECIAL COMMENDATION BY CIVIS ARD -MEDIAPRIZE JURY

The CIVIS media foundation aims to sensitize the electronic media in Germany and Europe for the themes of integration and cultural diversity and to promote the innovative and professional handling of developments in the European immigrant community. The foundation wishes to contribute to intercultural understanding and to European integration through the activities of the electronic media.

The CIVIS media foundation annually organizes the European ARD media prize CIVIS for Radio and Television in Germany and Europe.
This year Mundo short documentaries, Mundo – Media Education and Work Training and the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE)were given a special commendation by the television jury.

Prize winning Mundo short documentaries are Better Life (Tonislav Hristov), Multicultural YLE (Mohamed El Aboudi), The Sea (Thu Nga Vu-Lilja), My Skin (Thu Nga Vu-Lilja) and Wrong Person (Mohamed El Aboudi).

CIVIS is supported by the Association of German Savings Banks (DSGV) and the German Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, the European Parliament, the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Hungarian Autonómia Foundation.

Award ceremony will be held in 10.5.2006 in Berlin.

NATALIJA KOZUHOVA AND MARIA FRIMAN WON MUNDO PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Natalija Kozuhova's winning series Ottaa sydämeenWinners have been selected for this year's Mundo photography competition on the theme of "Work".

Jury consisted of well known photography professionals: Seppo Sarkkinen (YLE Photo Service), Riitta Ince (Lehtikuva Oy),
Eija Mäkivuoti (photoartist), Davide Pavone (freelancer/Mundo)
ja Raoul Grünstein (Image magazine).

Maria Friman won in the single image section with her photo Pidän kasvoistasi (I like your face) in which a covered Muslim woman is applying make-up on the face of a Finnish woman.

Victory in the five image photo story section went to Natalija Kozuhova with her series Ottaa sydämeen (Hurts in the heart) were she subtly portrays aspects of ageing.

Award ceremony was held in Stadia polytechnic in 23.3.2006.

MUNDOMANIA AT DOCPOINT FESTIVAL ON 29 JANUARY 2006

Mundo project is pleased to offer a free performance and snacks in Bio Rex on Sunday 29 January at 12.00 – 14.00.

The one-hour-long performance consists of short documentaries dealing with timeless and topical issues from Finland - from the immigrants’ point of view. The directors of the films Samuel Abaijón-Nurmisuo, Gustavo Alavedra, Victor Belousov, Mohamed El Aboudi, Tonislav Hristov and Thu Nga Vu-Lilja will be present in the event.

Food will be served after the performance.

MUNDO-PROJECT PARTICIPATES IN EDUCA FAIR 28.1.2006

Mundo project will participate in the Educa Fair aimed at education professionals and arranged in Helsinki Fair Center on 27 – 28 January 2006.

How to use multiculturalism as a human resource? Mundo - Media Education and Work Training Project for Immigrants and Ethnic Minorities financed by European Social Fund’s Equal Programme started in Spring 2005. What are the goals of the project? What kind of best practices and models has been developed so far? What kind of problems has the project faced in education and work training so far?

Mundo project will be presented at YLE’s stand on Saturday 28 January at 12.30 – 13.00. Jussi-Pekka Rantanen will interview Elina Paloheimo, project leader, Satu Hallenberg, Stadia manager/adult education, and Tahir Aliyev and Fernando Colombo, Mundo students.
