THU NGA VU-LILJA (b. 1969)

Thu Nga is from Vietnam and moved to Finland in 2003. She has been married to a Finn since 1994.

Having studied Film Science at the Hanoi Film Institute, Thu Nga completed the international Master of Arts examination at the Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). She has worked in Hanoi’s local television station HTV and in the culture section of the Vietnam television station VTV1 as a journalist, scriptwriter, director and producer.

Since 2003,
Thu Nga has been directing documentaries for YLE TV1’s Basaari series. In 2004, she won the ETNO journalism prize with her short documentary Kaiku. Thu Nga has also directed short documentaries for the Mundo series, YLE TV1’s filler production and the Hyvän joulun terveiset programme. In her productions Thu Nga focuses especially on people’s emotions and their fates.
