Tipi's comment

Interesting that there are two winners of previous Turku Cello Competitions (Ylinen and Peltonen) taking parting in the Paulo. How will they fare in comparison with the other Finns? How will the Turku winner 2002 fare with the 2006 winner? These are in fact pointless questions. For this is just one competition among others and one moment in the life of each. So what does it matter, so long as they play well and the concerts are enjoyable?

Which brings me back to my pet theme: POPPER! Ylinen’s repertoire planning is fine, though it could have been a bit more varied. Unfortunately Popper’s op. 39 won’t make it varied. And because of it we’ll be deprived of the last two movements of the Grieg sonata (a good choice).
