Tipi´s comments

Judging from his CV, Alstaedt is one of the most experienced contestants in this year’s Paulo Cello Competition. Despite being so young, he has been the soloist with many orchestras. It is, of course, impossible to judge anyone from what is written about them. So we’ll see for ourselves what he’s like as a player once the competition gets going!
His first round repertoire is to my mind an extremely fine entity. In other words it works magnificently as the repertoire both for a recital and for the first round of a cello competition. His choice of Dutilleux’s Troi strophes sur le nom de SACHER (1976) gives the programme a bit of extra colour. The main thing in this 45-minute round is for contestants to bring out their personal strengths in a programme that is both varied and compact.
Extremely interesting repertoire. I can’t wait to hear him play!
