MAANALAINEN ORKESTERI

Ohjaaja Heddy Honigmann on säveltänyt dokumentin Pariisissa elävistä muusikkolahjakkuuksista, joista osa on poliittisia pakolaisia, osa laittomia maahanmuuttajia. Kaikilla heillä on muistoja, jotka he haluaisivat unohtaa. Kaikilla unelmia paremmasta.

Jokainen muusikko tuo oman persoonansa ja kulttuurinsa, ja Pariisin halvoissa hotelleissa, toreilla ja pakolaiskortteleissa väräjää vahva monikansallinen lataus, joka saa uusia muusikoita tulemaan juuri Pariisiin.

Maanalaisen orkesterin (Het ondergronds orkest/The Underground Orchestra) matkassa kuljetaan metroista toreille, katuvilinästä pakolaisten koteihin ja musiikin vapauteen. Musiikin avulla he saavat elantonsa, musiikin avulla he tuntevat olevansa vapaita, vaikka maahanmuuttoviranomaiset saattavat kolkutella oveen minä päivänä hyvänsä.

THE UNDERGROUND ORCHESTRA

The film was to have been set largely under the ground. We were to encounter musicians from all over the world in the corridors and moving carriages of the Paris Metro. But we were never given permission to film in the Metro. So we filmed clandestinely and found ourselves banished above ground. But the underground feeling also penetrates above ground, the feeling of what a metropolis has become these days.

Our musicians are aliens: their music, their memories, backgrounds, language and stories take us "elsewhere. In their cases, something went wrong, a long time ago or a short time , or something is still wrong. A was, a military coup, an ideology that has been overthrown, a rate of inflation too high, poverty or starvation.

In this film we encounter a part of the history of the world in the last twenty years. A history of exile, resistance, loneliness and hope.
