Puhu minulle on ensimmäinen dokumentti New Yorkin poliisivoimien valiojoukkoon (NYPD Hostage Negotiation Team) kuuluvan noin sadan miehen ja naisen elämästä ja työstä. Neuvottelijat säästävät ihmishenkiä ja nappaavat rikollisia sanoilla - ei aseilla. Dokumentissa seurataan aitoja tilanteita suurkaupungin sykkeessä; epätoivoisten ihmisten epätoivoisia tekoja, joihin puhumalla saattaa löytyä ratkaisu.
New Yorkin poliisin valiojoukoilla on käytössään erikoisvarusteltu auto josta voidaan rakentaa vaikkapa kuva- ja ääniyhteys rikollisen asuntoon. Saatuaan yhteyden uhkaavasti käyttäytyvään tai itsemurhaa yrittävään, poliisin koulutettu erikoisryhmä ottaa tilanteen haltuunsa. Puhelimeen toistetaan yhä uudelleen sanat - talk to me, puhu minulle! Tilastojen mukaan yli 90 % tapauksista päättyy rauhanomaiseen ratkaisuun.

TALK TO ME
Talk To Me is the real life "NYPD Blue" meets "Dog Day Afternoon", the first documentary profiling the lives and work of the extraordinary men and women of the NYPD Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), who save lives and capture criminals with their words not their guns. Their motto emblazoned on all their gear - "Talk To Me."
Over 1 00 times a year the police in New York require the unique talents of the HNT. 1 00 elite detectives are on call day and night to talk down the desperate, suicidal, crazed, criminal and terrorists threatening to take the lives of others and themselves. Hugh McGowan is the commander of the HNT, and the only full time city police officer in the country dedicated to hostage negotiation. He goes out on almost every call, and coordinates the team's training and schedule. Hugh is a native New Yorker, family man and 30 year veteran of the force. After a decade in command at HNT, every officer in the unit has been trained by Hugh. He is a combination of leader, strategist, father figure and mentor. He is above all a 'peace officer", dedicated to proving that "you don't have to meet force with force". As he says: "we save lives by listening not shooting, it's great police work"
