TISSIT JA TANGO

Irman tarina kerrotaan John Websterin ohjaamassa dokumentissa Tissit & tango. Se on dokumenttielokuva maailmasta, jossa ihmiset elävät tyttökaupalla. Nuoria tyttöjä houkutellaan rahan ja menestyksen toivossa länsimaiseen hyvinvointiin viihdetaiteilijoiksi.

Tytöille luvataan 1000 markan päivätienestit Suomessa, mikä tuntuu tähtitieteelliseltä summalta, kun esimerkiksi hyväpalkkainen, akateemisesti koulutettu virolainen ansaitsee keskimäärin 650 markkaa kuukaudessa.

Todellisia menestyjiä ovat kuitenkin tyttöjen välittäjät ja ohjelmatoimistot. Tytöt saavat murto-osan siitä, mitä välittäjät. Esimerkiksi Irma kertoi 770 markan ravintolakeikasta saaneensa itse 120 markkaa. 370 markkaa vei suomalainen ohjelmatoimisto ja 260 markkaa venäläinen välittäjä.

Suurin osa tytöistä, jotka tekevät työtä strippareina eivät harjoita prostituutiota. Tyttöjä pakotetaan jatkamaan strippaamista "takuurahojen" ja byrokratian avulla. Sopimuksen purkamisesta ennenaikaisesti täytyy maksaa tietty "takuuraha" ja passi otetaan tytöltä heti hänen saavuttuaan Suomeen, jatkoviisumihakemuksia varten.

John Websterin dokumentti on kuvattu pääosin Tallinnassa ja Tampereella, jossa toimii eroottisia ohjelmanumeroita kauppaava ohjelmatoimisto. Se palkittiin dokumenttituomariston kunniamaininnalla Tampereen 25. kansainvälisillä lyhytelokuvajuhlilla ja se sai äskettäin Pohjoismaisen dokumenttipalkinnon.

DON'T TELL DADDY

Vadim, one of Russia's first break-dancers and a well-known figure in Tallinn, Estonia, owns a run-down bar and disco. Regularly, he advertises in local papers offering work for dancers and models. Enticed by Vadim's promises of glamour and big money earned in foreign countries, the girls sign up for dancing lessons. After about a month of lessons, for which the girls themselves pay, the dancing takes on an erotic nature. Finally, when most of the girls' money is spent, they are "ready" to sign a contract. Only at this point does Vadim tell them that they will be performing as strippers. The contract is valid for a year and if they wish to terminate it before that time, they will have to pay 8000 FMKs (about sixteen times a normal month's wages in Estonia). Most of the girls sign.

Irma, 18 years old and just out of school has not told her parents what she is doing. She signs the contract and travels to Finland to the entertainment agency that sells Vadim's girls' acts to bars and strip clubs. She travels alone, but she believes she will soon be joined by other girls and that they will be performing in a variety theatre together. She hopes to be home by Christmas.

At the agency she is given a stage name and her passport is taken away from her, on the pretext of extending g her work permit. The agency teams her up with an older stripper who, in a hotel room in a small industrial town, teaches her the basics of striptease.

Irma set out on her career as a stripper, performing in restaurants and rural bars all over Finland. She sleeps during the day and travels to the next gig when it is already dark, never spending more than two days at most in one place. Irma gets 20% of what the restaurant pays for a gig - the agency and Vadim take the rest. Of the money she gets from tips and "private shows" the restaurant takes half.

By the time Irma realizes what she has become involved in. She has no money with which to pay Vadim and no passport with which she could get out of the country.
