KUINKA GERALDO MENETTI TYÖPAIKKANSA

Kun Geraldo menetti työpaikkansaKun Fordin autotehdas lomautti Brasiliassa 2800 ihmistä, yksi heistä oli Geraldo. Kuka on vastuussa lomauttamisista? Onko toivoa päästä töihin takaisin? Kuinka Geraldo menetti työpaikkansa?

Näihin ja moniin muihin kysymyksiin lähtee etsimään vastauksia kameran takaa dokumentin ohjaaja, Jon Alpert, joka itsekin on erotettu monestakin työpaikasta. Kaikesta huolimatta hänen tungetteleva tapansa tehdä dokumentteja on ainakin kahdesti palkittu.

HOW GERALDO LOST HIS JOB

How Geraldo Lost His JobLuiz Porfirio and Adailton Coelho both work in car factories near Sao Paulo. Just before Christmas, Luiz - a white collar who did believe in president Fernando Cardoso's and the IMF's financial recipes-heard he was amongst the 2500 employees to be laid off from Ford- While his friend Adailton, -who works at Volkwagen's, had to accept an agreement to see his pay reduced by 15%.

The basis of the film is to enable our character- and the audience- to follow, step by step, the 'global thread', the local and global for which their lives are affected today. Sao Paolo, Rio, New York, Washington and Brussels if -need be- using the latest technologies, the investigation crosses borders, 1ooks at the institutions which are involved in the decision making process of Brazil's economy. Our character will follow, react, and direct the evolution of our investigation, Through a permanent link with our reporter.

We will be spending several weeks with Luiz. Our reporter Jon Alpert will -first follow Luiz life today in Brazil. With the support of a Brazilian journalist, Jon will inquire at Ford=s or Volkswagen's local branches. To help Luiz understand the financial mechanisms at -work and the climate around them, like the recent scandal around the governor of the Central Bank, Jon will approach Brazilian authorities. The perspective will be made wider for Luiz, by covering at the end of June in Rio the summit between 15 European governments and their Latin American counterparts.

Jon Alpert will then stay on the road and continue investigating in the US. New York, Washington, Detroit the IMF, the World Bank, the American administration. and the companies headquarters.

Jon Alpert has a very 'in-the-face' directorial style, able to humanize, give warmth and humour to abstract thematics.

We will film with digital cameras and submit the findings, the filmed stories, to Luiz with a permanent digital link and the help of teleconferencing technology. To explain the stakes of a globalized world it will be important to always stay close to our character's real life. Alternatively, we will be able to show this real life to the personalities our reporter will meet.

The final edit must enable the audience to understand in a new way the concrete aspects of "globalisation". It has to be human, graphic, serious and light at the same time. We should be surprised by a journalism that places itself directly at the service of everybodv's comprehension, never hesitating to use globalisation's very technological tools.
