HUIVIN TAKANA
Egyptiläinen dokumenttielokuva on harvinaisuus Euroopassa. Yousry Nasrallahin Huivin takana kertoo lämpimällä tavalla nuorten elämästä tämän päivän Kairossa. Vielä 1970-luvulla naiset käyttivät Kairossa minihamameita ja elivät ilman huntua. Nyt hunnun käyttö on lisääntynyt. Syynä ei ole pelkästään fundamentalismi, vaan monet tekijät. Kairon on maailman nopeimmin kasvava kaupunki. Tässä paineessa hunnutetut naiset ovat paremmin turvassa, heitä ei ahdistella yhtä paljon kuin ilman huntua liikkuvia naisia.Elokuvan pääosassa on Bassem Samran perhe. Bassan on nuori mies. Hän toimii opettajana teknisessä koulussa. Hän haaveilee näyttelijän urasta ja käy koekuvauksissa. Kaksi hänen läheisintä ystäväänsä opettavat tyttökoulussa, ja Bassam käy tapaamassa heitä koulussa, jossa eletään suljettujen porttien takana. Ystäviensä kanssa Bassem haaveilee avioliitosta ja miettii naisten iskemistä.
Perheen isä valitsee tyttärilleen aviomiehen. Vain harvoin se on tyttären oma valinta. Bassemin äiti yrittää neuvoa poikaansa vaimon valinnassa. Kulttuurierot Eurooppaan ovat suuria, mutta rakastuneiden nuorten elämä on samanlaista kaikkialla. Bassen vie silloin tällöin tyttöjä ulos, mutta itse sanoo, ettei huolisi vaimoksi sellaista tyttöä, joka on valmis lähtemään tutunkin miehen kanssa iltaa viettämään. Elokuvassa on hienoja kohtauksia, missä erikseen sekä naiset että miehet pohtivat puolison löytämisen ongelmia.
Elokuva osoittaa, miten läheisiä ovat perheen sisäiset suhteet. Äidin kanssa aikuisikäiset lapset voivat pohtia tulevaisuuttaan. Kuva islamista on myös valoisa. "Islam on iloitsemista eikä kieltäytymistä". Islam ei määrää hunnusta. Sen käyttö on ympäristön perinteen mukaista.

ON BOYS, GIRLS AND THE VEIL
Boys and Girls is a video documentary with the director's friend, Bassem Samra and his family.To introduce the film which. in view of current events 51 takes on major importance, Nasrallah. figurehead of the "new" Egyptian cinema, wrote the following text: "I can't just sit back and take note of the repression involved in the increasing social obligation in Egypt that reduces women to wearing veils.
Being foolishly optimist, a believer in life and love, and sharing the popular notion that where there is oppression, there is also resistance or at least cunning. I know that our womenfolk find the means daily to subvert these laws and continue display their beauty and their attractiveness.
The choice of making this film with people I love does not mean 1 took the easy way out. By filming them and their friends. I think I've managed to use my affection to keep from failing into a really facile trap of passing arrogant judgements on a phenomenon that continues to grow in importance. The result is very consciously a film that runs counter to the fears of the average spectator, terrorized by anything to do with relations between boys and girls and the veil. My role is not to comfort the viewer but instead to give him an image of his experience involving everything concealed in mundane reality that is a fight against all forms of repression. The need for happiness - since it is a necessity- always finds a way to express itself and often to triumph".
