SADDAM, JALKAPALLO JA JÄÄTELÖ
Saddam, jalkapallo ja jäätelö on aiemmin Dokumenttiprojektissa esitetyn Vihollisen leivissä -dokumentin ohjaajan, Sean McAllisterin henkilökohtainen ja koskettavan inhimillinen tarina Saddamin Irakista. Teoksen päähenkilöt, Kifah ja Alla auttavat hallituksen nimissä kansainvälisiä lehtimiehiä kuvaus- ja haastattelutilanteissa.McAllister kuvaa Kifahin ja Allan ja heidän kaltaistensa elämää yksin, pienellä digitaalikameralla, päästen näin hyvin lähelle aitoja tilanteita. Samalla hän astuu virallisen viivan yli lähestyen heitä ihmisinä ja ystävinä.
Lopputuloksena on elokuva, jossa edetään kauas virallisesta muotokuvasta. Hyvin erilaisista kulttuureista olevia ihmisiä yhdistävät samat universaalit asiat: toiveet ja pelot ja vaikkapa - jalkapallo.
Lähtemättömästi jää mieleen tilanne, jossa Kifa esittelee asuntonsa seinillä tyhjiä paikkoja, joissa on ollut valokuvia englantilaisista jalkapalloilijoista. Hän joutui myymään kuvat saadakseen rahaa. ''Tässä oli Kevin Keeganin kuva, tässä...'' Mieliinpainuva on myös hetki, jolloin McAllister pukeutuu Kifan lahjoittamaan koftaan, pitkään irakilaiseen paitapukuun.
Tällaisia elokuvia ei tehdä kovin usein eikä niitä varsinkaan usein esitetä televisiossa. Kannattaa siis katsoa nyt, kun siihen tilaisuus tarjoutuu. Myös lehtimiehille, jotka ovat joskus kehitysmaissa työskennelleet elokuvalla on varmasti aivan erityinen merkityksensä.

MINDERS
Hundreds of foreign journalists are in town for war. Baghdad is a city of no-go areas. The minders work under strict instructions from the Iraqi Ministry of Information. Their job is to help the journalists by providing local knowledge, to translate, and more often than not to tell them what they can and cannot film.The programme follows two minders, Alla, a carefree comical character in his late forties who has worked for Iraq's Ministry of Information for 17 years, and Kifah in his early thirties, a temporary minder on for the crisis.
Kifah is obsessed with English football. He dreams of meeting Kevin Keegan and having a pint in London. Alla, on the other hand, has travelled much of the world and has lived abroad - he loves eating ice cream, chasing women and, in his other career as a journalist, meeting world leaders.
Initially Kifah is sceptical of the film's intentions, and his world is shattered when the ministry sack him. His five days of minding had earned him more in dollars than all the other work he had done since sanctions were imposed on Iraq 8 years ago.
Alla talks affectionately about his travels. His golden years as he calls them, in the 70s and '80s when he travelled and worked in a number of different countries and lived the high life.
The two men's contrasting lives provide a unique and fresh insight into life inside Iraq today.
