i agree with your words and i know exactly how life this days make us confused about all things but because i am more close to quran and read alot about the first days in islam life and the start of the message which came to muhamed the prophet i can say some point to you sir :
1- islam never ask to kill anybody and if we do then god never forgive us
2- quran didnot come as a message all at once but it take about 23 year to be completed so the most important more than read quran is understand when and why all words and stories in quran had been come ( the reason for all words )then we can understand in clear way alot of point which we argue about now.
3- i agree with you that most of muslim now do bad in some points but not all like all religions but that because we are a huoman and have to do mistakes like all people so the base which we talk about and discuss now is the rule ( the quran rules ) and see if it is bad or good , good for huoman or bad .
4- my advice to all from my heart is that if you want to know about islam then dont lestin to the first explaination you find but try to read about muhamed the prophet and how he was living and handle with all ( chrestian and jewish and women and all people and try to see how he orderd his friends to give peace to all and never kill anybody or cut any tree or cut flower even !!!!

the truth not flow on the surface and you should do more work if you really want to know the truth
