The heat pump industry growing fast

Ground source heat is solar heat stored in the ground.
 

 
The heat stored in the ground, rock or water can be collected with heat pumps. The heat pump can be compared to a freezer that absorbs the heat in food and transfers it outside the freezer. The heat pump works in a similar way, but it collects heat stored outside and transfers it inside your house.

In ground heat the heat is collected with a plastic pipe, many hundred metres long, which is dug into the ground at about one metre’s depth.

In rock heat, the heat source is deep inside the rock, where the temperature remains constant throughout the year. The heat can also be harvested from a well.

Water-source heat means that the heat pump utilizes the heat stored in a mass of water (river, lake) through plastic piping immersed in it.


Geothermic heat is bound in hot water or water vapour. In Nordic Countries, Iceland uses warm ground waters in heating and energy production. The Finnish bedrock is not warm enough for geothermic heat utilization.
