    For over fifty yers Orson Welles' Citizen Kane has been hailed as one of the greatest films ever made. In 1941, William Randolph Hearst was a very public figure. For Welles' audience, the specifics of Hearst's life were part of the daily vernacular. Hearst moved to intimidate exhibitors into refusing to show the movie. Threats of black mail, smears in the newspapers, and FBI investigators were used in the effort.
