Toronton kansainvälinen elokuvafestivaali on noussut yhdeksi merkittävimmiksi maailmassa. Festivaalilla on myös erityinen sijansa dokumenteille. Tänä vuonna mm. Kim Longinoton, Errol Morrisin ja Wernewr Herzogin uudet dokumenttielokuvat saavat ensi-iltansa Torontossa.
The Toronto International Film Festival has announced the documentaries that will screen in the Real to Reel program at the 35th edition of the festival.
The line-up includes the latest from major documentarians such as Tabloid by Errol Morris, Pink Saris by Kim Longinotto and the 3D Cave of Forgotten Dreams by Werner Herzog. Each will be having their world premiere at TIFF.
"I'm thrilled that we've been able to program a documentary line-up with so many acclaimed filmmakers this year," said Thom Powers, documentary programmer for TIFF. "From Oscar winners and nominees to Emmy award-winners, these talented filmmakers have created works that will be debated and discussed for months to come. They reinvigorate our thinking about subjects like the war in Afghanistan, the banking crisis, and the future of energy."
Longinotto's film looks at an Indian feminist group, while Morris' Tabloid follows the story of Joyce McKinney, a former Miss Wyoming who abducted a Mormon missionary in the late '70s and forced him to have sex with her. Herzog's new work sees the filmmaker explore the Chauvet caves of Southern France, framing the earliest known pictorial creations of humankind in 3D.
Also in this year's doc line-up is the world premiere of Thom Zimny's The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town which exposes Bruce Springsteen's creative process as it impacted the making of his classic 1978 album. The Promise will be a gala presentation.
Other docs premiering in Real to Reel are Alex Gibney's Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer; Ondi Timoner's Cool It which features Bjorn Lomborg, the controversial author of The Skeptical Environmentalist who challenges the notion of climate change; and Vibeke Lokkegerg's Tears of Gaza which records the impact of the 2008-2009 bombings of Gaza on civilians. Also on the slate: Frederick Wiseman's Boxing Gym; Jorgen Leth's Erotic Man; Linda Hoaglund's ANPO; Naomi Kawase's Genpin and Guo Jing and Ke Dingding's When My Child is Born.
